The White Snake Wants My Baby: It Had Been Courting Him All Along
Noah Hayes takes a job looking after Avery, the largest and most bad-tempered white snake at the Cascadia Reptile Research Institute. Avery bites him and nobody else, refuses food, and drives off every other snake in the building. Noah spends a long time assuming he is hated. The White Snake Wants My Baby is about how wrong he turns out to be.
Avery arrives with a reputation
It is the biggest white snake in the facility and the most bad-tempered, and the staff have learned to keep clear of it.
Then the behavior gets strange in one specific direction. Avery bites Noah, and only Noah. It stops eating. It chases off the other snakes. When it gets close to him, it wraps around him and stays there.
Everyone reads that as aggression, including the man on the receiving end, and nobody floats the other explanation because the other explanation is ridiculous. If this is your kind of premise, there is more supernatural romance in the Dramafinds catalogue.
A breeding-season check explains everything
One routine exam changes the reading. A breeding check shows that Avery has been courting Noah since the beginning.
Run the earlier weeks back through that and they re-sort themselves. The bite was not an attack. Neither was the hunger strike, or the coil it kept him in. Avery was behaving the way a snake behaves when it has chosen someone, and the whole facility had been reading it wrong.
Noah had spent all that time managing what he took for hostility, and it was a courtship. You can watch the moment it dawns on him in all 20 episodes.
Then the gifts start arriving
Courtship does not end with the exam. Avery starts leaving Noah gifts, and it keeps driving off snakes that come anywhere near him, which now reads as jealousy rather than territory.
The strangest development is the dreams. Noah starts seeing a beautiful silver-haired man in them, and the link to the white snake in his care stops being easy to wave off.
By then Noah has stopped treating any of this as a work problem. Something has decided it wants him, it is not asking permission, and it is patient. You can watch where that goes in the full series.
